Writing blog posts, Twitter tweets, Facebook Walls, LinkedIn connections and Videos. Where do they begin? And how do I help them get the most from their time, energy and money? And if they spend time doing all these things, where is the time to do the work they really love, and which I’ve told them the “social networking” will help them do? And in this economy, many of them need to do the work themselves. Good Questions, my friends!

Blogs
If you were to pick on place to begin, I’d say begin by writing your blog posts. This is who you are. You write about what you know, what you think and most important, this is the place for people to get to know you. Share yourself. Share good information. Make it interesting. Make it funny – or serious if that’s your intent. But write. And write and write. Add pictures to your posts, add links, and keep writing. Not too much that people go away, but enough to keep them coming back.

Next time: I’ll talk about how to set up your posts so that people can actually find them and read them. Talk to you later!

I am often asked by new clients to tell them which is the most important social media tool that they should begin using to marketing their business on the internet. My answer to them is always, “E” “All of the Above”. Getting started can appear totally overwhelming, and oft times it is, especially when you’re already “running” your business, working with clients, building your latest products, and in your spare time, living your life and all it’s chores and obligations.

If I had to tell someone to pick one social media tool to help market there business, I’d tell them to use Twitter. Once your account is set up and some of the automated features are in place, such as delayed or automatic tweets, auto follows, auto unfollows, auto searches, etc, you’ll love your Twitter account. You will actually enjoy spending 15 minutes 3 times a week, reading other people’s tweets and even responding to them. It’s just like any other connection in life – you have to spend a little to get a little. And in this case, spending a little time on Twitter when there are millions and millions of people that you can potentially reach, seems like a good deal to me.

Just remember hire the people to do what needs to be done so you can spend time doing what you love. How much is your time worth?
